Faith Under Pressure

James 1:1-4- Faith Under Pressure                                                July 20th, 2015

James is writing to the new and old members of the faith. He identifies a key element of the Christian faith; the ability to rejoice and remain steadfast in the midst of suffering. Within this text and the entire letter is the underlying truth that Christians will suffer, should rejoice, and should be reminded that their suffering isn’t invain. I prefer “in vain” instead of “ meaningless”. At times we suffer and want to know the purpose of the suffering, but the truth is that sometimes the suffering is chaotic and has no external purpose, but pain… The correct understanding of suffering is that it can be used by God to grow our faith and character, but is also used by God to orchestrate history. God is above evil.
